= INT./ADV. TECHNIQUE SUMMER WORKSHOP: Learn RAWdance repertory and technique from Artistic Directors Wendy Rein and Ryan T. Smith, with RAWdance company members. Material will focus on exploring the potential of muscular tension and release, the chemistry of partnering and sharing space, and expanding movement through elasticity and breath. Each day will begin with a 45 minute technique warm-up, followed by learning phrase work in RAWdance's detailed and architectural movement style, and creating some of your own. The week will culminate in a short open performance.
If interested, workshop participants will be consdered for several group works being presented at RAWdance's Fall Home Season at ODC Theater. = TWO BY 24: LOVE ON LOOP
On June 19, RAWdance will take over the middle of SF's UN Plaza for an 8-hour outdoor contemporary dance installation. 12 couples - 24 dancers in all - will take turns performing a 20-minute duet for a total of 24 performances over the course of the day, highlighting our essential connections that transcend all lines of color, gender, sexuality, and culture. As our nation continues its grinding battle over the governing of intimacy and marriage, Two by 24: Love on Loop serves as a reminder that beneath all the legal jargon and political posturing is always a story of two people. Two people who flirt, fight, make-up, support, care, and love each other.
Composer Dan Wool, who has scored over 35 feature films and TV projects, as well as dances for choreographer Liss Fain and AXIS Dance Company, is creating a new soundscore for the piece. For this project, RAWdance's five members are joined by 19 performers with resumes including companies such as ODC/Dance, Martha Graham Dance Company, Margaret Jenkins Dance Company, Robert Moses' Kin, Kunst-Stoff, Printz Dance Project, and more. The live performance of Two by 24 will be used as the basis for a new film project by RAPT Productions, in collaboration with RAWdance, creating a standalone dance film from the eight-hour performance.
