Boulder Ballet presents RAWdance’s short dance film Picnic (2020) as part of its first Annual Dance Film Festival.
Picnic takes place within a surreal, grassy bubble, echoing the experience of its creators, RAWdance Co-Artistic Directors Ryan T. Smith and Wendy Rein, while sheltering in place in New York’s Hudson Valley last summer. Themes of time and consumption expand and converge throughout the film, countered by a klezmer music through-line.
Picnic premiered as part of the CONCEPT series: Digital Edition in August 2020.
About Boulder Ballet’s Dance Film Festival
This first annual virtual festival includes two programs showcasing up and coming artists from across the nation as well as professional artists from all dance genres. Watch both from the comfort of your own home! Bringing together the mediums of dance and film, Boulder Ballet seeks to celebrate and promote artists of all dance disciplines in an evening of art sure to uplift.
Both program A and B will be available to view anytime from opening night, March 25th at 5pm PT through closing night, March 28th at 10:30pm PT. Watch each program once or as many times as you like throughout the weekend.
