Modern American Dance Company is proud to partner with PNC Arts Alive to kick off its 45th season with Resilience, including the revival of Art is a Guarantee of Sanity (2017) choreographed by RAWdance’s Ryan T. Smith and Wendy Rein.
MADCO was ten days out from performing this concert before the pandemic halted production. After an off-season of rebuilding, Resilience returns with even greater relevance after the stages went dark, to celebrate the arts’ ability to adapt and inspire. For the production, MADCO revives Art is a Guarantee of Sanity (2017), originally commissioned by Dance St. Louis. Vibrating with tension and filled with luscious dancing, the piece navigates a path through an eerie, harrowing world in which our minds sometimes betray us. The work draws on the autobiographical story of Susannah Cahalan (Brain on Fire), the imagery of Louise Bourgeois, and the music of composer Surabhi Saraf.
Join MADCO at Washington University’s beautiful Edison Theatre for a night of thrilling and authentic performance – November 19th 7:30pm and November 20th 2:00pm and 7:30pm. Tickets on sale now!
