RAWdance presents its 10th Anniversary season at Z Space, featuring two world premieres. Turing’s Apple, created in collaboration with acclaimed New York composer Richard Einhorn, and Bay Area artists David Szlasa (lighting design), Sean Riley (scenic design), and Mary Domenico (costume design), takes its inspiration from the life and work of famed 20th century British mathematician and cryptographer, Alan Turing.
The second premiere on the program, Burn In, is a dark, mesmerizing, and psychologically driven trio, featuring an original score by Joel St. Julien. Inspired by Rorschach imagery and the shadowy, stark world of film noir, the piece offers a study in contrast, both visual and emotional. Burn In was presented as a work in progress in 2012, described by Allan Ulrich in the SF Chronicle as “a low-down exchange in which every shift of weight, every daring lift, every displaced limb seemed both carefully wrought and another chapter in an ongoing relationship.”
The special anniversary program will be rounded out with two new works by guest choreographers who are part of RAWdance’s extended family. The Amsterdam-based Gretchen Garnett & Dancers premieres A Dedication and, under the direction of local artist Tanya Bello, Project. B. premieres Nawala.
