RAWdance’s celebrated salon serves up a fresh dose of unique dance art in a lavish setting, but with a living room vibe. Five Bay Area choreographers join RAWdance to share works-in-progress and revamped repertory tailored for intimate viewing:
Colin Frederick
Tracey Lindsay Chan
seymour::dancecollective
dominique lesleyann
Amy Lewis
and RAWdance
The CONCEPT series: 32 lineup includes emerging voices such as Colin Frederick, who is exploring the character of the Albatross from Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner to represent the power of instinct and the consequences of actions. Tracey Lindsay Chan, who shifted from her career in global research to pursue her lifelong love of dance, is developing a piece on memory loss and aging. dominique lesleyann, teaching artist and performer with Dance Mission’s Dance Brigade, is returning back to her origins as a choreographer. Chafin Seymour of seymour::dancecollective is investigating ideas of fluency and language (verbal and physical) and how they determine the ways we relate to the world around us. Amy Lewis will share a collection of stories and movement inspired by her research into Heiner Müller’s play Hamletmachine as a springboard to reevaluate public and personal history. And RAWdance rounds out the program with excerpts of Art is a guarantee of sanity, a work originally created for St. Louis’s MADCO and never performed in the Bay.
For the CONCEPT SERIES, choreographers are encouraged to share work at any point of creation, offering new perspectives into the artistic process. Hosted by RAWdance’s Artistic Directors, the series takes place in the picturesque Green Room in the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center, creating a rare opportunity to see dance in one of the most beautiful spaces in the city.
Popcorn, coffee, and snacks served. Beer and wine for sale.
