“ODC’s annual fringe-style festival returns for a fourth year with samplings of dance from around the nation. Each double bill offers a provocative pairing curated to spark conversation.” For this year’s festival, RAWdance’s Double Exposure is being paired with Brooklyn-based Gallim Dance in Pupil Suite.
Drawing on RAWdance co-founders Ryan Smith’s and Wendy Rein’s 17-year history as dance partners, Double Exposure is an ongoing series of short duets created by some of the field’s most intriguing and esteemed choreographers making work along the West Coast. For the Walking Distance Dance Festival, duets by Kate Wallich (Seattle), Shinichi and Dana Iova-Koga (SF), Amy Seiwert (SF), Joe Goode (SF), casebolt and smith (LA), and Ann Carlson (LA) will be featured. Smith and Rein perform each duet back to back, redefining their roles every few minutes for a revealing half-hour journey.
Double Exposure is an ODC Theater commissioned project and will be realized as an evening-length work in Summer 2016. It is being created through support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Grants for the Arts/SF Hotel Tax Fund, The Kenneth Rainin Foundation, and the Zellerbach Family Foundation.
